Bannalp

Hier j'étais à Bannalp, à quelques kilomètres d'Engelberg en Suisse centrale. J'avais prévu une grande boucle autour du Ruchstock et Walenstöck. La neige m'a forcé à changer mes plans...

Yesterday, I was at Bannalp, few miles away from Engelberg, in central Switzerland. I planned a long loop around the Ruchstock and Walenstöcke. The snow made me changed this plan...

J'ai pris le petit téléphérique à Fell (900m), près de Oberrickenbach, au fond d'une petite vallée latérale à l'Engelbergertal. Ca évite environ 800 mètres et 2.30h de montée.

I took the tiny cable-car in Fell (900m), near Oberrickenbach, at the end of a lateral valley to the Engelbergertal. It cuts around 800 m ascent and 2.30h.

Le téléphérique nous dépose à Bannalp (1580 m), au pied du lac. On commence à monter vers Bannalp Schonegg, laissant le Bannalpsee derrière.

The cable car arrives at Bannalp (1580 m) near the lake. I started the climb from there, towards Bannalp Schonegg, leaving the Bannalpsee behind.

Un coup d'oeil derrière au nord. On devine Lucerne non ?

Looking back over my shoulder to the north. We see Luzern don't we ?

Arrivé à Bannalp Schonegg (2250 m). Entre les nuages et la neige, je commence à me poser des questions...

That is Bannalp Schonegg (22530 m). Looking at the clouds and the snow I was getting worried.

Je passe le col, direction Rot Grätli, et arrive sur la neige. Rien de bien dangereux, mais pas agréable car pentu...

After going over the pass to Rot Grätli came the snow. Nothing really serious but not pleasant either because of the steepness.

Les ennuis commencent. Le chemin passe au milieu de la neige et trouver les balises ne fut pas facile... Ne sachant pas vraiment où aller en plus. Faut rester calme et attentif.

Troubles ! The path goes through the snow and finding the markers was not easy ! Not knowing exactly where to go did not help... You need to stay calm and focus.

Au moins j'étais totalement seul. Enfin presque...

At least, I was completely alone. Well almost...

Par miracle, je retombe sur le tracé, l'espoir renait...

Finally I crossed the path I was looking for. Hope rose again...

.. mais ne dure pas longtemps. Le Rot Grätli (2560 m) est juste en face et clairement ca ne passe pas :(. J'ai du faire demi tour, faut rester humble dans ces cas là... Je n'avais ni mes crampons ni la moindre idée des conditions de l'autre coté.

... but not for long. The Rot Grätli (2560 m) is just ahead but clearly the way is shut... I just gave up and U turned... You need to stay humble. I had neither my spikes nor a clue about the conditions on the other side.

Sur le chemin du retour, je suis parti hors piste.

On the way back, I went off piste.

Etant en avance, je me suis dit que j'allais redescendre à pied et non en téléphérique. Le sol était détrempé par la fonte des neiges et la pluie la veille, rendant ce chemin très glissant, limite dangereux.

Since I was early, I decided to walk all the way back down. Because of the snow melting and the rain the day before, the path was wet, muddy and actually very slippery. Close to be dangerous.

Presque terminé. On voit le départ du téléphérique et l'arrivée en haut à droite.

Almost done. We see the start of the cable-car and its arrival on the top right corner.

+1150 m, -1800 mètres.

En janvier, me rappelle avoir bien aimé les chutes exceptionnelles de neige. Tout se paye... Bon, Bannalp en soi reste une très belle balade. Un bel alpage très calme. Je reviendrais faire cette fichue boucle.

In January I remember I loved the strong snow falls. Be careful about what you wish... Bannalp is anyway a lovely and quiet place and the hike was nice. I'll be back for that damned loop.

Interlaken - Augstmatthorn - Lombachalp

Juin est là et les Alpes s'ouvrent enfin à la randonnée. Les jambes démangeaient sérieusement... Je me suis laissé tenté par une belle crête dans l'Oberland, au dessus du lac de Brienz. Une vue spectaculaire, des fleurs à foison et assez peu de monde. La rando se termine à Lombachalp (1600 m), dans le plus grand haut-marais de Suisse.On y trouve un bar/resto.

June is finally there and the hiking season starts again. I was getting impatient... I chose a nice ridge in the Oberland, above lake Brienz. The view is spectacular, flowers everywhere and not so much people. The hike ended at Lombachalp (1600 m), the biggest "high-swamp" in Switzerland. There a restaurant/bar over there.

De Lombachalp, il reste 1h30 de marche pour Habkern, où le postbus vous ramène à Interlaken (le dernier est vers 6/7 h du soir). J'ai eu de la chance de me faire prendre en autostop pour Habkern.

From Lombach, there's still 1.30h to get to Habkern, where the postbus will take you back to Interlaken (the last one is around 6/7pm). I tried to hitch-hike from the restaurant and got lucky !

Départ d'Interlaken, au pied du funiculaire qui monte à Harder Kulm. J'ai pas pu m'empecher de monter à pied... On traverse la forêt évidemment à cette altitude, mais parfois quelques trouées donnent une belle vue sur Interlaken.

It starts in Interlaken, near the cog train that goes to Harder Kulm. I couldn't resist though to walk up... We go through the forest of course at this altitude, but sometimes you get a nice view on Interlaken.

Après Harder Kulm, on arrive sur la crête Brienzergrat. On oublie vite les 1000 mètres de montée et on profite de la vue magique.

After Harder Kulm, it's the Brienzergrat ridge. The thousand meters climb is quickly forgotten and you can enjoy the stunning view to the south.

La vue s'ouvre aussi coté nord, coté vallée d'Habkern. Sur la droite, vers l'est, le Suggiture et l'Augsmatthorn (2137 m) apparaissent. Le sentier suit la crête, c'est relativement plat pendant un bon moment.

Leaving the trees behind, we also get to see to the north, the Habkern valley. On the right side, looking east, we see the Suggiture and Augstmatthorn (2137 m). The path follows the ridge, it's fairly flat for a while.

Champs de fleurs à perte de vue, superbe. Dans la vallée, c'est Habkern.

Flowers everywhere, very impressive. Down in the valley is Habkern.

La montée au Suggiture parait impressionnante. Ca monte dur, mais pas bien longtemps.

The path going to Suggiture looks tough. It's quite steep indeed but not for long...

Le Brienzersee dans toute sa splendeur ! Au fond, on devine le Titlis et le Dammastock, phares de la suisse centrale.

The Brienzersee does look good.... On the background we can see Titlis and Dammastock towering above Central Switzerland.

Arrivé sur l'Augstmatthorn, la crête se prolonge vers l'est jusqu'au Brünigpass.

On top of the Augstmatthorn, the ridge continues towards east up all the way to Brünigpass.

La vallée d'Habkern. On voit bien le Niederhorn et même le Niesen tout au fond.

Habkern valley. We see clearly the Niederhorn and even the Niesen on the background.

La tourbière est particulièrement fleurie.

There are million flowers in the swamp...

Une bien belle rando. On peut s'économiser 1000 mètres en prenant le funi et ca vaut quand même le coup.

A very nice hike. You can save 1000 meters up taking the cog train and it's still worth it.
