King way (Bränten)

Encore un très beau dimanche d'automne. Dante et moi en avons profité pour escalader la voie "King way", la voie royale, à Bränten (entre Balsthal et Oesingen) dans le Jura suisse. De loin, ça ressemble à ça:

Another very nice autumn Sunday. Dante and I  went climbing the King way route in Bränten (between Balsthal and Oesingen) in the Swiss Jura mountains. From far distance, this is what it looks like:

Route

Près de Äeussere Klus, une petit route (interdite...) passe sur un pont, on s'est garé un peu plus haut. De là, suivit la route puis un chemin indiqué qui amène au pied des falaises. En longeant un peu sur la droite, on tombe sur la King way. Du sommet, descente à travers la forêt on longeant les falaises au début.

Near Äuessere Klus, a small (forbidden...) road goes over a bridge. We parked a bit above that. From there, walked on a road then a trail (with a signpost). This gets you to the bottom of the cliffs. Go along to the right and you'll find the King way. From the top, downhill through the forest along the cliffs at first.

Topo

4 longueurs, 120 mètres. On a pris une corde simple de 60 mètres. 12 dégaines. Équipement en parfait état, route assez simple à suivre. Des anneaux de rappel si besoin. Pas trouvé de relais au sommet, pris un arbre à la place... Ça nous a pris environ deux grosses heures je pense.

4 pitches, 120 meters. We took a single 60 meters rope. 12 quick-draws. Equipment on the wall was in perfect shape and route faily easy to find. Some rappel rings if you need. Didn't find the top relais, so took a tree instead. It took us around 2 hours I think.

Je monte la première longueur en tête. Un 5c sympathique.

I'm leading the first pitch. A cool 5c.

Dante fait la deuxième longueur en 6a. Petite traversée assez rigolote :-).

Cette deuxième longueur est la plus soutenue.

That second pitch is the longuest/toughest.

Dante est au relais de la troisième longueur (6a+), très courte avec un mouvement délicat. Cool la photo nan ?

Je me lance en tête pour la 4ème et dernière longueur. Pas évidente cette traversée, on se sent un peu vulnérable, pas trop envie de faire le pendule... Et j'ai plus beaucoup de jus dans les bras, le passage du 6a+ m'a tout vidé :-).

I'm going for the 4th and last pitch, leading. Not an easy traverse, you feel vulnerable, don't wanna play the pendulum... And that last 6a+ pitch pretty much burnt my arms out :-).

Mais je finit par arriver au sommet. Dante m'y rejoint.

La vue est vraiment sympathique là haut. A l’œil nu, on voyait bien les Alpes. Mon téléphone n'est pas trop à la hauteur des couleurs et de la profondeur, faudra me croire sur parole.

View was really nice up there. You could see the Alpes pretty well. My cell phone isn't good enough to render the colors and depth, you'll just have to believe me.

Descente rapide par la forêt. Un quart d'heure et nous voila à la voiture. 

Quick downhill in the forest. Took us 15 min and we were back at the car.

120 mètres de plaisir mais j'étais pas mécontent d'en finir. Ça crame les bras mine de rien... Une belle journée en tout cas, si seulement cet automne pouvait continuer encore et encore !

120 meters of fun, though I was glad to be done with it. This is hard work for the arms... A beautiful day again, if only this autumn could keep on going!
