Trümmelbach - Eigerglestscher

Ce dimanche, j'ai cédé à la facilité. J'ai été randonné du coté de la Jungfrau où j'ai déjà traîné mes guêtres, mes chaussures, mes skis et mes vélos un nombre incalculable de fois. J'ai tenté d'innover tout de même...

Last Sunday, I took the easy way out: I went hiking in the Jungfrau area, where I've been skiing, hiking, cycling a million times before. I tried to find something new though...

+1580 m, -350 m, 11 km, 5.30 h.

Départ de Trümmelbach dans la vallée de Lauterbrunnen. Suivre le chemin pour Kleine Scheidegg. On passe les alpes de Mettlenalp  Biglenalp et Wengernalp (que j'ai court-circuité) avant d'arriver à Eigerglestscher et de redescendre à Kleine Scheidegg. Le train ramène à Wengen et Lauterbrunnen puis un bus à Trümmelbach.

Start from Trümmelbach in the Lauterbrunnen valley. Follow the path to Kleine Scheidegg, pass Mettlenalp, Biglenalp and Wengernalp (which I short-cut) before make it to Eigerglestscher and Kleine Scheiddeg. A train takes you back to Wengen and Lauterbrunnen, then a bus to Trümmelbach.




De bon matin, je m'engage sur un joli raidillon, taillé à flanc de montagne. On passe en fait à la verticale des fameuses chutes d'eau de Trümmelbach. Tout au fond, on voit la Schynige Platte. A mesure qu'on s'élève, la vallée de Lauterbrunnen apparaît. La plus belle de Suisse à mon humble avis avec sa forme en U. C'est aussi la Mecque du base jumping, avec ses exploits et ses tragédies...

Early in the morning, I start going up on a very steep path. Actually we are just above the famous Trümmelbach water falls. On the background, that's the Schynige Platte. The Lauterbrunnen valley appears on the way up. In my humble opinion, probably the nicest swiss valley, with its U shape. It's also the Mecca for base jumping, with crazy stories and sad stories... 

Après le raidillon on passe par une mini vallée très encaissée et des gorges impressionnantes. Au fond le Mönch baigne dans la lumière.

After the steep path comes a tiny steep-sided valley with impressive gorges. On the background the Mönch bathes in the light.

Derrière, la montée déjà effectuée. En face, Mürren surplombe la vallée de Lauterbrunnen. Sur la gauche, la Sefinental et le Gspaltenhorn (3436 m).

Après avoir passé Mettlenalp, je me dirige vers Biglenalp où on longe vraiment les faces nord des trois soeurs : Eiger, Mönch et Jungfrau. On se sent tout petit ici. Surtout, j'aimerais être capable d'aller tout droit...

After passing Mettlenalp, I walked towards Biglenalp. You can really go along the north faces of the three sisters : Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. You feel tiny here. Moreover, I wish I could just go straight ahead...

A Biglenalp, au lieu de suivre Wengernalp et ses flots de touristes, j'ai pris hors piste. Le danger d'avalanche est assez limité aujourd'hui. Tout droit donc et on verra bien, l'Eiger étant un assez bon point de repère !

At Biglenalp, instead of following the path to crowded Wengeralp, I went off piste. Avalanche danger seems reasonable today. Straight ahead so and we'll see, the Eiger being a pretty good reference point !

Revenir au chemin m'a coûté mes deux jambes ! C'était particulièrement raide :-). En face, Eiger, Chlyne Eiger (tout en noir) et le Mönch. Le glacier de l'Eiger reste impressionnant.

Going back to the path cost me two legs ! Was very steep :-). Ahead, Eiger, Chlyne Eiger (the back one) and the Mönch. The Eiger glacier is still impressive.

Voila Eigerglestscher, la station de train. Le glacier de l'Eiger s'écoulait sur la droite auparavant comme en témoigne la moraine sur laquelle je marche.

Coup d’œil derrière, après quasi 1600 mètres de dénivelé. Au fond à gauche on voit le très raide col du Sefinenfurgge, séparant la Sefinental et le Kiental.

Je fais un détour pour aller toucher la face ouest de l'Eiger. Paysage typique d'ancien glacier.

Après une petite heure de descente, je prends le train à la Kleine Scheidegg vers Wengen et j'admire la face nord de l'Eiger. Le train en face lui monte au Jungfraujoch (col à 3500 m entre Mönch et Jungfrau), plus haute station de train d'Europe.

After an hour downhill, I took a train to Wengen at Kleine Scheidegg. Let's admire the north face of Eiger. That red train goes up to the Jungfraujoch (pass at 3500 m between Mönch and Jungfrau), highest train station in Europe.

Une fois passé Wengen, le train continue sa descente vers Lauterbrunnen. Vue classique sur la vallée, vers le sud. Trümmelbach est au milieu, le Breithorn tout au fond (frontière avec le canton du Valais). On devine un bout de la randonnée que j'ai fait, sur la gauche, au pied de la belle Jungfrau.

Once passed Wengen, the train keeps going down to Lauterbrunnen. Classical view on the valley, looking south. Trümmelbach is in the middle, the Breithorn at the end (border with canton Valais). You see part of the hike I did, to the left, at the foot of the lovely Jungfrau.

J'ai visité ce coin des Alpes une bonne quarantaine de fois, je n'ai plus trop de surprises mais ça reste agréable. Seul point noir : le flot de touristes (quel japonais n'est pas monté à la Kleine Scheidegg ?) et de plus en plus d'hélicoptères chaque année. Une votation apparemment va bientôt trancher sur ces hélicos... On trouve encore heureusement des chemins calmes: de Trümmelbach à Mettlenalp, je n'ai croisé personne. Un vieil ami m'avait parlé de ce passage secret, il n'avait pas menti ;-).

I visited that corner of the Alps around 40 times, so I don't get surprises anymore, yet it remains nice. Only problem here: the mass tourism (half of Japan already went to Kleine Scheidegg) and more and more helicopters each year. There will be soon a vote on these helicopters actually. At least, there are still some quiet parts: I was alone from Trümmelbach to Mettlenalp. An old friend told me about this secret path, he was right ;-).

Chaiserstock

Coincée entre la Muotathal (canton de Schwyz) au nord et la Schächental (canton d'Uri) au sud, la Riemenstaldental est une vallée latérale de la partie uranaise du lac des Quatre-Cantons. Quelques belles montagnes là-bas, des vues grandioses et des itinéraires alpins. Tout pour plaire donc. 

Stuck between the Muotathal (Canton Schwyz) to the north and the Schächental (canton Uri) to the south, the Riemenstaldental is a lateral valley of the Lake Lucerne. Some pretty nice mountains over there, great views and alpine trails. It has it all.

Au fond de la vallée de Riemenstalden, dans le village de Chäpperliberg, se garer au pied du téléphérique. Suivre Höchi, la Lidernenhütte SAC, Chaiserstock, Rossstocklücke puis à nouveau la cabane. On a mis 7h30 avec pauses.

At the end of the Riemenstalden valley, in the village of Chäpperliberg, park near the gondola. From there, follow Höchi, Lidernenhütte SAC, Chaiserstock, Rossstocklücke and again the hut. It took us 7.30 hours, including breaks.




On entame la journée par un bon gros chemin, accessible aux VTT pour une belle boucle entre Muotathal et Schächental. La vallée est assez jolie.

The day starts on a wide path, you can take your mountain bike there for a nice loop between Muotathal and the Schächental. The valley is pretty.

La montée à la cabane est rapide, 600 mètres de montée environ. Derrière on voit Seelisberg et plus loin encore la presque-île du Bürgenstock.

The walk up to the hut is quick, around 600 meters ascent. Behind, we see Seelisberg and further away the peninsula of the Bürgenstock.

Elle est soit assoiffée ou daltonienne...

La crête entre Fronalpstock et Chlingenstock apparait. Je l'ai fait il y a quelques années, c'est joli et facile. Derrière c'est la station de Stoos. Tout à droite, c'est le Gross Mythen ! A gauche, un petit sommet, le Schmal Stöckli, assailli par quelques cordées.

The ridge from Fronalpstock to Chlingenstock appears. Dit it few years ago, was nice and easy. Behind is Stoos. To the right we can see the Gross Mythen! To the very left, a small peak, the Schmal Stöckli, stuffed with climbers that day.

L'objectif principal de la journée: le Chaiserstock (2515 m). Relativement impressionnant. Après les champs de neige, on longe la base pour arriver à l’échancrure, au centre. De là, une crête aérienne, sécurisée, amène au replat final. Mieux vaut avoir le pied sûr...

Here's today's main objective: the Chaiserstock (2515 m). Fairly impressive? After the snow fields, you traverse below the base and then go up to that tiny indentation, at the center. From there a safe but narrow ridge takes you to the top. Better be sure-footed!

Le passage aérien dure 10/15 min et est stimulant :-). On se sent vivre ! Le décor est superbe.

The ridge part takes 10/15 min and is stimulating :-). You feel alive ! Great views.

Le passage délicat est passé. On espère que la descente ira aussi... La fin est facile, la croix à portée de main.

We passed the ridge, hoping we'll climb it down without troubles... The last bit to the top is easy, can almost touch the cross.

C'est beau non ? Vue vers le nord-ouest avec le lac des Quatre-Cantons et le Rütli en bas et quelques stars de Suisse centrale: Pilatus dans la brume, Rigi sur le droite.

Nice isn't it? Looking north-west, lake Lucerne and Rütli. Some famous mountains of central Switzerland : Pilatus in the center and in the haze, Rigi to the right.

Nous voici au sommet. Vers l'ouest, le chemin que l'on va prendre tout à l'heure: le Fullen et le Rossstock (oui oui trois s :-) ). Au delà la Suisse centrale avec le Titlis pile au dessus du Rossstock.

We're at the summit now. Looking west, we see the path we're about to take later : the Fullen and the Rossstock (yes, three s :-) ). Beyond, central Switzerland, with the Titlis right behind the Rossstock.

Au sud, une encore plus belle vue :-). La Schächental plus bas, la Reusstal sur la droite se dirigeant vers le col du St Gothard. Au fond le Gross Windgällen qui borde le magnifique val Maderan. On touche les Grisons, le Tessin et le Valais n'est pas loin non plus, c'est le charme du canton d'Uri.

To the south, an even more beautiful view :-). The Schächental is down there, the Reusstal to the very right on its way to Gotthardpass. On the background, the Gross Windgällen, towering above the gorgeous Maderanertal. We can almost touch Grisons, Ticino and Valais here. That's the charm of canton Uri.

Vers l'est, un beau gosse. Derrière, les alpes glaronaises. On voit tout à gauche le très attirant Glärnisch (2914 m). Je reconnais aussi mon bel Orstock et les alpages de Glattalp et Charretalp. Et une pelletée de gros sommets (où est le Tödi tient par contre ?). Au dessous, c'est Seenalp.

Looking east, behind the handsome man are the Glaronese Alps. To the left side, the very attractive Glärnisch (2914 m). I can spot my nice Ortstock and the Glattalp/Charretalp pastures. And a lot of peaks (where's the Tödi actually ?). Below that's Seenalp.

Comme prévu, on redescend, passe le Fullen et se dirige vers le Rossstocklücke, petit col qui permet d'aller à Muotathal, via Seenalp et Hürital. Comme d'habitude cette année, la neige encore la neige. Et les cumulus classiques d'après-midi, mes ennemis jurés...

As planned, we go down, pass the Fullen and start goind up to the Rossstocklücke, a tiny pass which you can take to go down to Muotathal, via Seenalp and Hürital. As usually this year, snow and more snow. And the classic afternoon clouds, my personal ennemis.

Le panneau le plus cool que j'ai jamais croisé. Tout en itinéraire alpin !

Le Chaiserstock. Je suis toujours étonné par les distances que l'on peut faire une journée... On était la haut 90 min auparavant ! On a continué de monter pour arriver sur le Rossstock, on laisse juste tomber le sommet, trop de nuages.

The Chaiserstock. I'm always amazed by the distance you can do in a day. We were at the top some 90 minutes ago ! We kept going up to get on the Rossstock, we just skip its very summit, too many clouds.

De l'autre coté, vers l'ouest. Le lac c'est le Spilauersee. La descente vers la cabane et le téléphérique commence.

Arrivés au téléphérique. Au premier plan et au centre, le Schmal Stöckli donc, juste derrière le Chaiserstock. 

Made it to the gongola. Up there we see the Schmal Stöckli so and just behind the Chaiserstock.

Une heure d'attente pour monter dans la populaire bébé-cabine (vous pouvez applaudir le jeu de mot) et nous voila en bas, repus de montagnes. La digestion prends environ une semaine par contre !

One hour of waiting before we could jump in the tiny yet popular gondola. And we're back at the car, our belly full with mountains. Digestion takes around a week though!

Superbe et ludique, une bien belle randonnée. Pleins d'itinéraires dans ce coin, l'exploration continue !

Lauenen - Rinderberg

Cette randonnée constitue le deuxième jour d'une randonnée de 2 jours dans l'ouest de l'Oberland bernois. Le premier jour m'avait emmené de Lenk à Laueuen. Aujourd'hui, j'irai de Lauenen à Rinderberg, au dessus de Zweisimmen.

This hike is the second day of a two days hike in the west of Bernese Oberland. The first day took me from Lenk to Lauenen. Today I'll go from Lauenen to Rindeberg, above Zweisimmen.

Après une nuit à Lauenen dans une gasthof sympathique, je me dirige vers Trüli, près du Trütlisbergpass. De là je suis Rinderberg en passant par une minuscule vallée, coincée entre la Lauenental et l'Obersimmental.

After a night in Lauenen in a nice gasthof, I'm heading to Trüli, near the Trütlisbergpass. From there I'll follow Rinderberg, through a tiny valley, stuck between the Lauenental and the Obersimmental.

Mignon comme village Lauenen. Les chalets sont sacrément beaux, même pour la Suisse. Gstaad et ses milliardaires sont au bout de la vallée...

Lauenen is one cute village. The chalets are really nice, even for Switzerland. The wealthy Gstaad is a bit further down the valley...

Montée vers l'alpage au dessus de Lauenen par ce beau matin d'été. J'aime... En face c'est la Spitzhore (2807 m).

The Diablerets range shows up. 

Une fois passé le petit col Trüli, une autre vallée s'ouvre. Elle ramène également à Gstaad. En face c'est Rinderberg, fin du voyage. Tout au fond, au nord, les pré-Alpes de Fribourg.

Once over the tiny pass Trüli, another valley opens. It also takes you back to Gstaad. Ahead we can see already Rinderberg, end of the journey. On the background, to the north, are the Fribourg prealps.

Très tranquille cette vallée, moutons et vaches se la coulent douce. Derrière le Wildhorn.

Arrivé au coude de la vallée, je me retourne pour saluer le Giferspitz. Apparemment un chemin de crête part de Gstaad, monte là haut puis redescend sur le Lauenenhorn puis vers Lauenen. Je prends note.

Where the valley bends, I looked behind to salute the Giferspitz. It seems a trail goes from Gstaad all the way up, then down and up again to Lauenenhorn and finally down to Lauenen. I'll remember that.

En parlant de Gstaad, bé c'est en bas au fond. Au delà, quelques jolies montagnes (le Pays d'Enhaut) que je visiterais bien un jour. Derrière le Léman n'est pas loin.

Talking about Gstaad, well it's down there. Some nice mountains on the background, the 'Pays d'Enhaut', that I'll try to visit one day. Behind, the Geneva lake isn't far away.

Bon mine de rien j'ai remonté un peu pour arriver sur la crête qui mène à Rinderberg. De là, l'Oberland s'impose. La Wildstrubel bien sûr mais aussi la magnifique et encore très enneigée Altels. Les nuages m'ont empeché de voir Eiger et Jungfrau :-(. En bas, c'est la vallée de Lenk, l'Obersimmental.

Alright, while I was talking I made it to that ridge leading to Rinderberg. From there you can't miss the Oberland. The Wildstrubel is obvious but also the gorgeous snowy Altels. Clouds blocked the view over the Eiger/Jungfrau :-(. Down there is Lenk and the Obersimmental valley.

Joli petit chemin de crête. Marrant, je l'avais monté cet hiver pour aller chercher un champ de poudreuse ! C'est le domaine de Zweisimmen ici.

Nice little path on the ridge. Quite funny, I took it last winter (yeah Dante, with you) to get some powder ! This is the Zweisimmen ski domain here. 

A l'ouest, les pré-alpes de Fribourg : Vanil Noir, Dent de Ruth, Kaiseregg  notamment.

To the west, the Fribourg prealps : Vanil Noir, Dent de Ruth, Kaiseregg (can you see it Urs ;-)  ? ) etc.

Finalement le téléphérique de la Rinderberg qui me ramènera à Zweisimmen, fin du voyage.

Finally, Rinderberg and its cable-car going down to Zweisimmen. Journey's over.

Conclusion

Rando facile. Pas la partie la plus spectaculaire des 2 journées mais de très belles vues quand même. Beaucoup d'alpages tranquilles où le mot qui me vient souvent à l'esprit est harmonie.

Easy hike. Not the most spectacular part of these 2 days but very nice views still. Lots of quiet alpine pastures. One word came to my mind several times: harmony.
