Après une belle journée la veille à l'Allalinhorn et une nuit à la Britanniahütte, Ian et moi nous lançons dans l'ascension du Strahlhorn (4190 m). Course d'alpinisme sur glacier peu difficile, le Strahlhorn vous récompense avec l'une des plus belles vues en Suisse.
After a nice day the day before at the Allalinhorn and a night at the Britanniahütte, Ian and I are going for the Strahlhorn (4190 m). It's a PD mountaineering climb, with a fairly easy glacier approach. The reward is the amazing view up there, one of the best in Switzerland. 
Depuis la Britannia, voie normale vers le Strahlhorn en passant par l'Adlerpass. J'avais pensé à redescendre vers Zermatt mais on a préféré la descente vers Saas-Fee. J'ai pris, sans le vouloir, un 'raccourci' qui finalement rajoute un peu de dénivelé, pour le plus grand bonheur de mon partenaire :-)
From Britannia, normal route to Strahlhorn, by the Adlerpass. I thought about going to Zermatt but we overuled it in the end and went back down to Saas-Fee. I took by mistake a 'short-cut' which added a little climb, which my partner loved ;-).
Petit-dèj à 4h, sortie peu après. Une petite heure de frontale, pas plus.
Breakfast at 4am, out shortly after. One hour max with the headlamp.
Premières lueurs. Après la descente depuis la cabane, alternance de pierriers et glaciers. Ça monte un peu, ça descend un peu. Pas super agréable, on attend l'Allalingletscher avec impatience.
First glow. After the downhill from the hut, alternating scree and glacier parts. Goes up a little, goes down a little. Not so fun in the morning, we are just waiting to step on the Allalingletscher...
Nous y voila, et avec les premiers rayons de soleil.

La glacier n'est pas trop compliqué mais ça reste quand même bien crevassé, avec quelques ponts de neige. Le matin c'est bien, l'après-midi moins! C'est la raison de la cotation PD, le reste est simple.
That glacier is not too complicated but it still has many serious crevasses and snow bridges. In the morning it's ok, not quite in the afternoon. This is why it's a PD climb, the rest is fine.
L'Adlerpass (3789 m) en face. Ensuite, direction le Strahlhorn, à gauche.

Jolie vue à l'Adlerpass :-). Pollux, Breithorn et Cervin notamment. En bas ça descend vers Fluealp puis Zermatt.

La fin est techniquement très simple, montée paisible peu crevassée sur une large croupe peu pentue.
The end is technical easy, peaceful walk and few crevasses, the ridge is wide and not steep.
Techniquement facile mais l'air se raréfie...

Le final.
Ian me rejoint à la croix. Il est déjà bien entamé mais super mental, respect. Il est environ 10h. On a mis environ 5h40 (4h30 selon topo). Pas que j'ai trouvé le chemin le plus court sur le glacier.

Bon alors la vue au Strahlhorn c'est quelque chose. Au sud, le massif du Mont Rose comme je l'avais pas encore vu. Juste en-dessous, c'est Macugnaga, Italie, tient.
Ok so the view up Strahlhorn is quite something. Looking south, that's the Monte Rosa range like I haven't seen it before. Just below in the valley that's Macugnaga, Italy, btw.
Plein ouest, Cervin et Mont Blanc.
West, Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.
Coté est, le Stausee Mattmark (fin de la Saastal) et la plaine italienne derrière. La particularité ici c'est qu'on est sur le versant sud des alpes, qui se terminent abruptement. Belle mer de nuages pour le souligner.
East, Stausee Mattmark (end of Saastal) and the Italian plains. The thing is, we are here on the south edge of the Alps, where they end sharply. Nice sea of clouds to underline this.
Au nord, Allalinhorn, puis derrière Alphubel, Täschhorn et Dom. Au loin, la belle pyramide du Bietschhorn et le glacier de l'Aletsch. Oui, on voit bien l'Oberland d'ici !

C'est parti pour une longue descente, d'abord vers la Britannia au fond du glacier en bas.

Quelques cordées croisées mais nombre très raisonnable, rien à voir avec la veille à l'Allalin.
We crossed some people but not many, nothing like the day before at the Allalin.
On quitte l'Allalingletscher pour aller chercher le Hohlaubgletscher. Ça remonte...

La cabane est presque en vue, juste derrière cette pente ocre/jaunâtre.

After a last uphill, finally!
Ian me rejoint, un coca frais l'attend :-). Il finit exténué et les pieds plein d'ampoules, pas facile d’enchaîner avec l'Allalin et c'est haut un 4000... Derrière, notre Strahlhorn.
Ian arriving, there's a fresh coke waiting for him :-). He ends up exhausted and feet full with blisters. Not easy after doing Allalin yesterday and 4000 are high... Behind, our Strahlhorn.

After a quick break, hike down to Felskinn where the cable-car to Saas-Fee is.
On y arrive 45 min avant la fermeture. Pfiou...

Superbe journée. Paysages grandioses, libres sur un beau glacier. Beaucoup aimé ce sommet, il est pas impossible que je le retente depuis Zermatt un jour. Bravo à Ian, il en a bavé mais a survécu. Respect...
Great day. Amazing scenaries, free on the glacier. I really liked this summit, I might do it from Zermatt one day. Hat's off to Ian, he suffered and survived. Respect... Thanks mate to have gone up with me, fun week-end. We do this again whenever you want ;-).
