Introduction
Cette semaine, j'ai visité avec Alice le bout de la célèbre vallée de Lauterbrunnen, dans l'Oberland bernois. Probablement la plus belle vallée suisse si on me demande mon avis. Sa forme en U est spectaculaire.
This week, I visited with Alice the end of the famous Lauterbrunnen valley, in the Bernese Oberland. Probably the nicest valley in Switzerland if you ask me. Its U shape is stunning.Route
Stechelberg - Trachsellauenen - Schmadriḧutte - Oberhornsee - Obersteinberg - StechelbergAssez longue marche mais qui permet de faire vraiment le tour du fond de cette vallée. Départ du parking à Stechelberg, près du téléphérique qui monte à Gimmewald.
Pretty long walk but which allows to really do this valley all the way. You can park in Stechelberg, near the cable-car that goes up to Gimmewald.

Ok, c'est parti. En face, le fond de la vallée de Lauterbrunnen. On voit déjà quelques grosses montagnes (Abeni flue, Mittaghorn et Grosshorn) nous séparant de la Lötschental, dans le Valais. Notre tracé passe sur le flanc gauche et revient par le coté droit.
Ok, let's go. In front of us, the end of the Lauterbrunnen valley. We can already see some big mountains there (Abeni flue, Mittaghorn and Grosshorn). Behind is the Lötschental, in the Valais. Our path goes along the left side and goes back on the right side.
Derrière nous, la partie disons classique de cette belle vallée en U. Au fond on devine Wengen.

On monte tout doucement, apparait le Breithorn (3780 m). Il déjà clair que ca va être beau...
The Breithorn (3780 m) appears after some gentle climbing. It's quite obvious already, it's gonna be nice...
On a déjà bien monté. Derrière, la vue est superbe sur la vallée. On devine Stechelberg d'où nous sommes partis. Plus loin Lauterbrunnen et, perchés sur les hauteurs, les villages de Mürren à gauche et Wengen à droite. Encore derrière, on voit la Schynige Platte. Au delà on devine la crête qui sépare l'Emmental des lacs de Thoune et Brienz.
We're quite high already. Behind, the view on the valley is great. You see Stechelberg where we came from. Further away is Lauterbrunnen. Above we see the villages of Mürren on the left and Wengen on the right. Even further away is the Schynige Platte. Finally on the background we guess the ridge that separates Emmental and lakes Thun / Brienz.

On approche du fond de la vallée. Les glaciers sont partout.
We're getting closer to the end of the valley. Glaciers are everywhere.
Vers l'ouest, on voit le chemin que l'on prendra au retour (les petites maisons). Si vous avez l'oeil, vous pourrez voir la pointe du célèbre Schilthorn, au centre, qui dépasse de la crête.Tout au fond à droite, on voit le Niederhorn !
To the west we see the path we will take later today (the tiny houses). If you have good eyes, you can see the top of the famous Schilthorn, at the center, just behind the ridge. On the background, to the right hand, we see the Niederhorn !
Vers le sud-ouest, on commence à voir le Balmhorn (3698 m). Sur sa gauche, on tombe sur la frontière avec le Valais avec le Lötschepass. Sur sa droite c'est la Gasteretal qui débouche sur Kandersteg. Oberland prend tout son sens ici.
Looking south-west, we see the Balmhorn (3698 m). To its left is the Lötschepass (border with the Valais) and to its right is the Gasteretal ending up at Kandersteg. The meaning of Oberland becomes obvious there.
Vers le nord, la Jungfrau comme on la voit assez rarement.
To the north, the Jungfau from an unusual perspective.
Dommage que l'eau soit gelée, c'était tentant...
A pity the water was so cold, it was tempting...
On laisse de coté la Schmadrihütte et on continue vers le fond au sud, direction l'Oberhornsee. Paysage idyllique...
We leave the Schmadihütte behind and head to the south, to the Oberhornsee. It's idyllic really...
Arrivés à l'Oberhornsee. Petit mais joli. Trop froid pour faire trempette hélas.
On entame la descente coté ouest de la vallée. Sauvage et fleuri.
We are now going down, along the west side of the valley. Wild and lot's of flowers.
La diversité de fleurs dans cette vallée est impressionnante, même pour les habitués.
The diversity of flowers in this valley is impressive, even for the regular customers.
Toujours beaucoup de neige pour la saison. Ca fond de partout par quantité incroyable.
Still lot's of snow considering the season. It's melting everywhere, amazing quantity.
Après un arrêt au stand, on continue la descente.
After a stop, we keep going down.
Je vous jure, il a posé plusieurs minutes. Jamais vu ça !
I swear, it strikes a pose for few minutes. Never seen that before !
Presque arrivés à Stechelberg après une longue descente à travers forêt et alpages.
Conclusion
Aucune difficulté technique, juste une longue marche et 1400 m de montée/descente. Ca reste assez touristique (compteur de Grüezi monté assez haut) mais en semaine ce fut tolérable. Paysage grandiose, glaciers, cascades et prairies/marécages aves fleurs à profusion. Vraiment idyllique...
Not technical, just a long walk with 1400m ascent/descent. It's quite touristic (Grüezi count was fairly high) but in the middle of the week I found it acceptable. Great sceneries, glaciers, water falls and meadows/swamps with so many flowers. Truly idyllic.
