Barrhorn

Le programme est simple: faire le Barrhorn (3583 m) en courant pour avoir le temps de prendre le taxi à Gruben, plus bas dans la Turtmanntal. Le Barrhorn passe pour être la randonnée la plus haute d'Europe !

The plan is simple: a fast hike to Barrhorn to be on time for a cab in Gruben, down in the Turtmanntal valley. Barrhorn seems to be the highest hike in Europe!


Turtmannhütte > Barrhorn > Turtmannhütte > Gruben > Turtmann (Rhonetal).

D'assez bon matin, on laisse la cabane derrière et on commence les 1000 mètres de montée nécessaire pour atteindre le Barrhorn.

Early in the morning, we leave the hut behind and start the 1000 meters climb to reach Barrhorn.

Derrière nous, le Turtmanngletscher se réveille.

Behind us the Turtmanngletscher is waking up.

Dante est en grande forme, moi j'essaye de suivre.

Dante is on fire. I'm just trying to keep up.

Alaska ? Népal ? Andes ? Non, Brunegggletscher, alpes valaisannes...

On arrive à un col, le Barrhorn est en vue (au centre sur la photo). Je regarde ma montre, me dit que j'aurais jamais le temps, laisse Dante partir et me met à le suivre quand même tant bien que mal :-).

Made it to a pass, we can see now Barrhorn (at the center of that pic). I looked at my watch, figured out I won't have the time, let Dante rush the summit and tried to follow anyway :-).

Alors ici, ça grimpe bien. Et puis on est à presque 3500 mètres. D'où mon léger étonnement de voir des vélos... Je vois toujours Dante mais j'ai du mal !

OK so it's very steep there and nearly 3500 meters altitude. So I didn't really expect bikes there... I can still see Dante but it's getting hard.

Respect...

Je sais pas comment mais on a monté le Barrhorn en 2h30... On était assez contents de nous :-). Faire un sommet c'est toujours un sentiment assez fort.

Not sure how but we did Barrhorn in 2h30 and we were pretty happy about that :-). Making it to a peak always brings strong feelings.

Au sud-ouest, le Turtmanngletscher. On voit la nouvelle cabane de Tracuit tient.

On récupère Alice et on continue la descente vers la vallée.

We picked up Alice and continued the downhill to the valley.

J'aime cette vallée, l'une de mes préférées en Suisse.

I love this valley, one of my favorite in Switzerland.

Presque arrivés au petit village de Gruben, fin de cette randonnée de 3 jours. Il nous reste un taxi à prendre et un téléphérique pour redescendre dans la vallée du Rhône.

Almost arrived at Gruben, end of this 3 days hike. One taxi cab and a cable car to get back down to the Rhone valley

Quand on me demande quel canton je préfère, j'hésite toujours. Mais à priori c'est quand même bien le Valais... C'est beau, point. Chouette randonnée avec plein de moments agréables. Et du challenge aussi :-). Merci aux participants !

When asked which canton I prefer I always struggle to answer. But I guess it's gotta be the Valais... It's beautiful, period. So, great hike with lots of nice moments. And some challenge too :-). Thanks to the participants!
