Jungu - Turtmannhuette

Après avoir passé la nuit à Zermatt, notre randonnée continue. Aujourd'hui, sous une chaleur écrasante, on passe dans la Turtmanntal (via l'Augstbordpass) pour aller dormir à la Turtmannhütte.

After a night in Zermatt the hike goes on. Today, under a sweltering heat, we cross to the Turtmanntal (via Augstbordpass) and to sleep at the Turtmannhütte.

Route

Même en prenant le téléphérique à Sankt-Niklaus, qui amène à Jungu, cela reste une randonnée plutôt longue. Prévoir de l'eau...

We took the gondola from Sankt-Niklaus to Jungu. Even though, it's a rather long hike. Bring water...

A l'arrivée du téléphérique, la vue est déjà superbe. Au sud, la Mattertal, stoppée par le Breithorn. Au dessus de la maison, le Weisshorn.

Up station, the view's already great. To the south, the Mattertal ends with the Breithorn. Above that house, the Weisshorn. 

Au nord, la Mattertal plonge dans la vallée du Rhône. On voit un petit bout de l'Aletschgletscher.

To the north the Matteral flows into the Rhône valley. Do you see the Aletschgletscher ?

A l'est, à coté de Grächen, le glacier du Riedgletscher, où j'ai fait une très belle randonnée l'an dernier.

To the east, near Grächen, the Riedgletscher, where I did a beautiful hike last year. 

Bref, c'est joli mais la journée est longue. Une marche de 3 heures nous amène tout doucement au col de la journée : l'Augstbordpass.

Anyway, it's nice but we have a long day. A 3 hours walk slowly leads to today's pass: the Augstbordpass.

L'Augstbordpass (2894 m), finit par se montrer. Paysage franchement lunaire.

N'a pas été si facile mais on arrive au col. Au fond, il me semble voir Fletschorn et Weissmies, entre Saastal et Simplon.

Wasn't easy but we made it to the pass. On the background it must be Fletschorn and Weissmies, between Saastal and Simplon.

La descente commence, interrompue par quelques pauses rafraîchissantes. Le soleil cogne.

Downhill starts, with some nice refreshing little breaks. The sun's hammering us.

La Turtmanntal apparait. Magnifique vallée assez sauvage coincée entre Mattertal et Val d'anniviers. Au nord, les alpes de Berne avec le Balmhorn et le Lötschpass au centre.

Turtmanntal appears. Beautiful and fairly wild valley stuck between Mattertal and Val d'Anniviers. To the north, the Bernese Oberland, with Balmhorn and Lötschpass.

Le clou du spectacle finit lui aussi par arriver. Le Turtmanngletscher, ou plutôt ce qui l'en reste. Sa moraine latérale droite rappelle sa gloire passée. A gauche, c'est le Bishorn (4153 m), grimpé quelques années auparavant. Sur la gauche, les Diablons.

Last but not least highlight of the day, the Turtmanngletscher suddenly popped up. It's used to be much bigger as the lateral moraine reminds us.To the left is the Bishorn (4153 m), climbed a few years ago. To the right side, the Diablons.

Plutôt sympathique la vue depuis la cabane. A gauche, c'est le Brunegggletscher. Je vous le précise pour le plaisir d'écrire 3 g à la suite :-).

Et maintenant, au dodo, demain la journée est encore bien remplie.

Conclusion

Superbe évidemment. Ce coin là du Valais ne déçoit jamais. Le jour où ils installent le wifi et une douche à la cabane, je signe à l'année.

Obviously gorgeous. This corner of Valais never disappoints you. I'll move in the day they install wifi and showers.
