Les objectifs en montagne c'est un concept assez fluide... Le but du week-end était relativement ambitieux, mais les conditions et la météo nous on contraint Paul et moi à descendre en gamme. On s'en sort plutôt bien, avec une jolie course peu difficile à la clef: le Nadelhorn, 4327 m, par sa voie normale depuis le refuge des Mischabel.

On sort du refuge vers 3 heures du mat, avec l'ambition de monter à la Lenzspitze puis de traverser vers le Nadelhorn. On en connaît qui ont essayé ;-) c'est une course majeure. On démarre par l'arête rocheuse simple puis partie glaciaire débonnaire. Le vent souffle, il pleuviote, et tout est super humide autour de nous :s. Un coup de tonnerre retentit sur la Lenzspitze. Des cordées redescendent, on se parle, vers 3700 m, non seulement c'est orageux mais les rochers sont plâtrés là haut. Pas trop le choix, c'est une course de rocher: on renonce. On sait que le beau temps arrive, il nous faut une course de neige. On se rabat donc tous sur le Nadelhorn par la voie normale. Direction le Windjoch (3847 m) que l'on atteint un peu avant l'aube. Le vent souffle assez fort, avec un peu de grésil. J'ai très froid grrr, pas équipé pour ce genre de conditions.
We got out of the hut around 3am with the ambition to climb Lenzspitze and traverse to Nadelhorn. A famous and great ridge. Easy ridge and glacier at first. The wind blows, light shower, everything around is humid :s. Then we heard a thunder above, on Lenzspitze, followed by climbers on their way down. We discussed, near 3700m. Not only it's stormy but the rocks are too snowy. It's a rock climb, so no choice: we gave up. We knew the weather was about to improve, so we all settled down for a snow climb: normal route for Nadelhorn. We head to Windjoch (3847 m), which we made a bit before dawn. The wind blows strong, some snow and sleet. I got very cold grrr, not equipped enough for these conditions.

Paul prends le relai, moi je suis occupé à réchauffer mes doigts congelés. Arête principalement en neige, avec quelques ressauts rocheux facile.

A droite (nord), le Riedgletscher, qui descends vers Grächen et la Mattertal. Bon souvenirs là bas d'une très belle rando alpine. Au loin, la région de l'Augstbordpass.

Le sommet n'est plus loin. A droite, le gendarme du Nadelhorn.

Le finish se redresse un peu. On peut passer par les rochers ou la neige. On monte par la neige. Rien de méchant et c'est court.
The end is a bit steeper. You can go on the rocks or on the hard snow. We chose the snow. Nothing scary and it's short.

Sommet minuscule, on fait la queue. Tiny summit, you need to queue in.
Au nord, la Nadelgrat. L'objectif initial du week-end en fait. De bas en haut: le Gendarme, le Stecknadelhorn (4239 m), l'Hobärghorn (4217 m) et le Dirrurhorn (4034 m). Superbe arête qui me démange depuis longtemps... Le couloir d'accès n'était hélas pas en conditions. Faudrait 30 week-ends en juin !
North: the Nadelgrat. That was the initial goal in fact. From bottom up: Nadelhorn gendarme, Stecknadelhorn (4239 m), Hobärghorn (4217 m) and Dirrurhorn (4034 m). Fabulous ridge I wanna do for many years... The access couloir was not in conditions then. We need 30 weekends in June!

Bon, on a fait la moitié du chemin, y a plus qu'à s'envoyer 2000 mètres de descente. On prends par les rochers, assez sympa et sécurisant.

Pis on revient sur la neige, tranquille.
And then snow, easy peasy.
Belle face nord de la Lenzspitze. Celle là aussi me tente énormément et là encore la période où elle est en bonnes conditions est relativement courte hélas.
Beautiful Lenzspitze north face. I'm really attracted by it too. There again, it's not in conditions for a long time in the year unfortunately.

La traversée Lenzspitze Nadelhorn qui nous faisait rêver. Clairement avec ce qui est tombé dans la nuit c'était pas trop possible à faire.
The Lenzspitze Nadelhorn traverse we dreamt about. It was clearly not a good idea with all the snow that fell during the night.
Ces gens là ont évité l'orage et montent avec soleil et ciel bleu. Ils ont tout compris. On s'est levé tôt pour rien, avec l'espoir de passer.
These people woke up later and are climbing under a bright blue sky. Clever folks. We got up too early, hoping for the best.
M'étais dit qu'on pourrais faire cet Ulrichshorn en a/r vu qu'il est encore tôt (10 h?) mais ça souffle encore et ça se couvre, alors on décide de faire au plus simple. Direction le Windjoch et la cabane.
I considered climbing that Ulrichshorn as it was still early (10am?), but it's still blowing and getting cloudy, so we took it simple: down to Windjoch and the hut.

Nice climb, the cold made it hard for me. I need to gear up a bit for 4000m, got cold too often this year. Anyways, we did what we could with the weather. Nice weekend with Paul! I need to come back there.
