Wachthubel (Emmental)

La saison de la randonnée alpine est ouverte ! Rien de tel que les pré-Alpes pour bien commencer donc j'ai choisi une boucle dans la charmante région Emmental.

Hiking season is there ! Best place to start is probably the pre-Alps so I chose a loop in the lovely Emmental area.

 

Route

Depuis Eggiwil (canton de Berne), j'ai suivi Pfyffer puis le Wachthubel (1415 m). Je suis descendu vers Schangnau puis retour à Eggiwil en longeant la rivière Emme.

From Eggiwil (canton Bern), I followed Pfyffer then Wachthubel (1415 m). I came down following Schangnau and Eggiwil, following the river Emme.

Une randonnée digne de ce nom comporte toujours un passage en forêt.

It's not a hike if there is not a forrest at some point.

Après une petite heure, coup d’œil derrière. Eggiwil est au fond à droite. Ca commence tout doucement à ressembler à l'Emmental.

Looking behind after one hour. Eggiwil is on the background now, right hand side. It slowly starts to look like Emmental.

En résumé l'Emmental c'est des collines, avec du bois et des vaches dessus et des fermes éparpillées qui s'occupent du bois et des vaches.

In a nutshell, Emmental is about hills with trees and cows on it and then farms taking care of those trees and cows.

Dans l'Emmental plus que nul par ailleurs en Suisse, les chemins de randonnées passent au cœur de ces fermes. Très sympa, surtout si vous évitez de vous faire mordre par les chiens (vous savez, ceux qui d'après leurs maîtres sont toujours très gentils).

In the Emmental, more than anywhere else in Switzerland, the hiking trails go through the farms. Very nice, especially if you keep the dogs away (you know, those very nice dogs, say the masters).

Des fermes partout donc. Le facteur se régale tout les matins. Au fond, c'est le Stockhorn, près de Thoune.

Je n'ai pas souvent randonné en avril, c'est agréable en fait tout ces petits perces-neiges.

I never really hiked in April. It's pretty nice actually, especially with all these little snowdrops. 

Arrivé au sommet du Wachthubel, la vue est peu gâchée par les nuages. De gauche à droite : Schrattenflue, Hohgant, Niederhorn et Sigriswiler Rothorn. Visiblement, il va falloir que je programme le Hohgant bientôt :-).

I made it to the Wachthubel. The view is unfortunately clouded. From left to right: Schrattenflue, Hohgant, Niederhorn and Sigriswiler Rothorn. It seems that I need to put the Hohgant on the agenda soon :-).

Je râle sur les nuages parce que par beau temps on voit quelques beaux pics de l'Oberland : Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn et Finsteraarhorn. La photo date de 2009, prise dans une boucle VTT dans le coin. Un véritable paradis pour le VTT soit dit en passant...

I'm complaining about those clouds because when the sun shines, you can see some beautiful peaks of the Oberland: Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Finsteraarhorn. The picture is from 2009, taken while mountainbiking around. A true paradise for MTB by the way...

La descente sur Schangnau se fait sans problèmes. Au loin, derrière le col entre Schrattenflue (gauche) et Hohgant (droite), on voit un bout du Brienzer Rothorn. Derrière, c'est donc Sörenberg.

Pas beaucoup de glaciers dans le coin mais un charme incroyable. L'Emmental c'est avant tout paisible.

Not so many glaciers around but an incredible charm. Emmental is just peaceful.

Et voici la rivière Emme qui a donné son nom à cette région célèbre pour son fromage d'alpage. Emmental = vallée de l'Emme.

And that's the river Emme. This famous alpine cheese producing area is named after it. Emmental = Emme valley.

La boucle est bientôt bouclée. Les nuages s'éparpillent, les boutons d'or en profitent pour bronzer un peu.

I'm looping the loop soon. Clouds fading out, buttercups are sun bathing.
