L'été est fini, les colchiques sont là. Pour cette première de l'automne j'ai choisi une randonnée un peu aérienne (bleu/blanc) au dessus de Melchtal: l'Arnigrat.
Summer is gone, Colchicum are there to prove it. For that first hike in autumn, I chose an exposed one (blue/white) above Melchtal: the Arnigrat.
Départ de bon matin de Melchtal. Très vite sous la forêt. Un peu galéré d'ailleurs, le chemin était interdit pour 'coupe de bois'. Suis passé quand même mais dû escalader quelques troncs... Suis passé avant l'arrivée des bûcherons heureusement.
Early start from Melchtal. Quickly through the forest. A bit tough actually, the path was forbiden due to trees cutting. I went anyway but had to climb a few trunks... Luckily I was there before the lumberjacks.
Ebnetalp. Sorti de la forêt, je reviens dans la légalité :-). Il fait beaucoup plus chaud que j'avais imaginé. Je ruisselle, les couches tombent les unes après les autres, rien n'y fait.
Ebnetalp. Out of the forest I'm not an outlaw anymore :-). It's much hotter than I anticipated. I'm dripping, removing layers after layers, still too hot.
Melchtal en bas, la région de Melchsee-Frutt au fond. Je commence à bien connaître le coin et j'en suis fan. C'est calme, magnifique et plein de challenges intéressants.
Melchtal down there, the Melchsee-Frutt area ahead. I'm getting to know a bit the area and I'm a fan. It's quiet, beautiful and full of interesting challenges.
Chaltibrunnen, 1430m. Je vais bientôt quitter le chemin pour monter sur le droite.

J'approche de / getting near Hohmad, 1935m.
Les choses sérieuses vont commencer. De ce coté-ci de l'Arnigrat ils indiquent un chemin rouge/blanc, de l'autre bleu/blanc. A priori c'est bleu, c'est facile mais bien exposé.
Things are about to get more serious. From that side of Arnigrat they say it's red/white while on the other they say blue/white. I'd say it's blue, easy but pretty exposed.
D'ailleurs au début je prend hors piste. Sympa, faut mettre un peu les mains.
In fact I went off piste at first. Nice, had to use the hands.
Au point 2028 on voit enfin l'Arnigrat. Une première bosse puis deux petits sommets: Astelhorn et Wandelen (celui avec la croix).
At 2028 point, you finally see the Arnigrat. A little bump and then 2 little peaks: Astelhorn and Wandelen (with a cross).

Rien de dur donc, la sente évite d'ailleurs quelques difficultés. Mais faut pas glisser...
Nothing difficult, the little path avoids some of the tough parts. But you shouldn't slide there.
Derrière / behind.
Je m'approche de l'Astelhorn, 2083m. J'avais amené les crampons, je savais qu'il restait un peu de neige. Ils ne m'ont pas servi finalement, ça passe sans problème. Pris aussi un piolet, qui m'a aidé parfois dans les gazons raides.
Getting closer to Astelhorn, 2083m. I brought crampons cause I knew there was some remaining snow. I didn't have to use it, was fine. I also took an ice-axe, which proved to be helpful in the steep grass sections.
Un bon exemple de difficulté évitable, la sente contourne. J'ai préféré crapahuter :-)
A good example of something you can avoid if you follow the track. I chose to scramble a bit :-)
Coté est, Widderfeld Stock et Nünalphorn. On voit bien la vallée pour monter au col Bocki-Rotisand. C'est chouette là haut, crête magnifique, alpinisme peu difficile.
Looking east, Widderfeld Stock and Nünalphorn. You can see the valley to get to the Bocki-Rotisand pass. It's cool up there, beautiful ridge, easy mountaineering.
Dernier sommet en vue, crête plate et facile mais toujours exposée.
Last summit now on sight, easy flat ridge but still exposed.
Au sud, cet Heitlistock que je vais contourner avant de revenir par un sentier enneigé juste en face puis descente dans ce vallon.
South, this Heitlistock which I'll bypass before coming back using a snow path just ahead, then downhill in the valley below.
A l'ouest, la belle Schrattenflue.

Est: Widderfeld & Nünalphorn à gauche, puis Huetstock et Rotsandnollen. Les montagnes entre Melchsee-Frutt et Engelberg.
East: Widderfeld & Nünalphorn to the very left, then Huetstock and Rotsandnollen. Basically, the mountains between Melchsee-Frutt and Engelberg.
Nord: lac de Sarnen et Pilatus.
North: lake Sarnen and Pilatus.
Bon, me voila descendu de l'autre coté du Wandelen.
Alright, now on the other side of that Wandelen.
Je contourne l'Heitlistock en allant vers ce petit col en face. Ce sommet est faisable, j'avais juste mon compte de montée.
Going around Heitlistock, towards that tiny pass ahead. That summit is doable, was just tired and lazy.
A ce col (P1970), je retrouve un coin visité pendant mon tour du Haupt (la point en face). J'arrivais d'en bas et passé cet alpage (Innenbach) puis passé par ce petit col à droite en neige. Belle randonnée. Ce Haupt me nargue mais son tour viendra.
At this pass (P1970), I'm looking at a place I already visited during a tour of Haupt (that peaky thing ahead). I came from below, crossed that pasture (Innenbach) and went to that snowy pass to the right side. Nice hike. That Haupt is teasing me but its time will come.
Pff je dois remonter une centaine de mètres. Le vallon à droite descend à Stöckalp, le mien est à gauche.
Pfff had to go up again another hundred meters. That glen to the right goes down to Stöckalp, mine is to the left.
Fin de la montée. En face: l'Arnigrat. Au fond, le Stanserhorn et une longue crête qui est sur ma liste également.
Done with the uphill. Ahead: Arnigrat. On the background that is Stanserhorn and a cool ridge also on my todo list.
Descente dans la neige. Pas eu besoin des crampons (neige molle) mais le piolet m'a donné du confort.
Snowy downhill. Didn't have to use crampons (soft snow) but the ice-axe kinda helped for balance.
